Grooms was born at Burlington, Missouri, November 26th, 1860 and passed away in Valentine, Nebraska, October 2nd, 1937 at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 8 days. He grew to manhood in the community where he was born. In May, 1883 he came with his parents to Cherry county, Nebraska. On June 9, 1887 he was united in married to Martha Haley. Grooms was born at Burlington, Missouri, November 26th, 1860 and passed away in Valentine, Nebraska, October 2nd, 1937 at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 8 days. He grew to manhood in the community where he was born. In May, 1883 he came with his parents to Cherry county, Nebraska. On June 9, 1887 he was united in married to Martha Haley. To this union five children were born, four daughters and one son. He homesteaded near Sparks, Nebraska, later moving north of the old Fort Niobrara where he proved up on a homestead and where his activities were various. In 1915 he moved with his family to Valentine in order that his children might enjoy the education privileges offered here. He continued to make his home here since that time. His wife, son, and eldest daughter preceded him in death. The surviving children are Mrs. Grace Shelbourn and Mrs. Nettie Cyphers of Valentine, Nebraska; and Mrs. Daisy Ganow of near Portland, Oregon. There are also seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert E. of Scottsbluff, and J. M. of Los Angeles, California; and a host of other relatives and friends. He who from zone to zone guides through the boundless sky thy distant flight, in the long way that I must treat alone will lead my steps aright.
