Description	:	Mrs. Abbie McFarland Bean was born June 3, 1836 in Newark, Ohio. Her parents came to southwestern Iowa when she was 16 years of age and located in Taylor County. In the spring of 1859 they removed to Montgomery County and Miss Abbie was married September 12, 1861 to Frank Bean by whose death some years since she was left a widow. Mrs. Bean united with the M, E. Church at Holmes Chapel, about eight years ago, and after removing to Villisca five years ago, cast her lot with the Presbyterian Church of this place. Here with much, and in... Read More	Mrs. Abbie McFarland Bean was born June 3, 1836 in Newark, Ohio. Her parents came to southwestern Iowa when she was 16 years of age and located in Taylor County. In the spring of 1859 they removed to Montgomery County and Miss Abbie was married September 12, 1861 to Frank Bean by whose death some years since she was left a widow. Mrs. Bean united with the M, E. Church at Holmes Chapel, about eight years ago, and after removing to Villisca five years ago, cast her lot with the Presbyterian Church of this place. Here with much, and in the last months of her life, with deepening interest in personal piety and bible study, and in the companionship of her only surviving child, and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Clark who lived with her, she was preparing for the summons which came so unexpectedly and so suddenly. Her death was caused by blood poisoning, the result of a small wound in her thumb, made about twelve days before. The funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church and was conducted by her pastor, where a large concourse of friends paid their last respects to the memory of their departed friend and followed the remains to their last resting place. Montgomery County Court House, Red Oak, Iowa, death records, book 1897-1906, page 6∼Married Franklin Gilbert Bean, always called Frank, on September 12, 1861, in Montgomery County, Iowa. Had two children: Oscar, born May 10, 1863, in Villisca, Iowa; married Jennie Stewart in 1882; killed in a tragic railroad accident on June 28, 1891, age 28; and Cora, born March, 1868; married Andrew Jackson Clark in 1886; died October 26, 1964, in Seattle, Washington, but is buried in this cemetery. Abbie and her husband were both terribly devastated when their only son, Oscar, died age 28 in an awful railroad accident. The railroad tracks were out of alignment, causing the crash and his untimely death.
