Jacobsen, "Del", 88, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 19, 2010, quietly in his home with family in Waterville, WA following a brief illness. He was born on January 16, 1922, in Waterville, to Arnold H. and Lorna P. Jacobsen in the home of his grandfather, Samuel Johnston. His life as a wheat farmer began early, at the age of 14, with horse drawn plow and progressed through seven decades of successful wheat farming, retiring at the age of 87. He graduated from Withrow High School on May 27, 1941, serving as the Senior Class Secretary. On March 21, 1947, Del completed his certification for Arc and Acetylene Welding and Machine Shop from the Spokane Public Schools, Spokane Trade School. He was well known for his wit, smile and a sense of humor that was the basis for lifelong friendships. Often a spot of humor from his friends, was his ability to make something from nothing often found in his scrap heap of metal, making many of the needed parts to keep equipment running or making the entire piece of equipment from found or made parts, motors from other trucks or cars, with added embellishments of his own design, became his trade mark. On June 27, 1948, he married Alice May Grandy of Chelan, WA, making their first home at the Waterville Auto Court Apartments and later moving to the Jacobsen Farms ranch home. In 1953 they purchased a home in Waterville where they wintered each year. He served on the Douglas County Soil Conservation Board and as a member of the Douglas County Posse in the early 1960's. In February of 1962, he was featured in the Wenatchee Daily World along with several local farmers in a front page story of their hand built Snow-Planes, a pre-concept to the present day snowmobile. His lifelong sport was skeet and trap shooting and in later years, his skills in trap kept him in steady competition in many of the area club's tournaments. His club affiliations included: the Waterville Gun Club, Wenatchee Gun Club the Hi-Yu Indians of Spokane and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed working with wood, baking pies and bread, brewing beer, fishing and razor clamming. In his later years, he found his best entertainment in purchasing cars and trucks from local dealerships, where he enjoyed his fine art of dickering or at area auctions very quietly sneaking his bid in, all for the sport of it. Adelbert is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary M. Jacobsen McKeague and William R. McKeague of Mukilteo, WA, Neil A. Jacobsen and Carolyn VanLyth Jacobsen of Waterville, WA and Cheryle A. Jacobsen Hannahs and Gregory R. Hannahs of Colbert, WA; and five granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Effie A. Bymers Huebregtsie, Marire M. Fox and Glorian Eggers. Funeral and Interment Services were held on April 24, 2010, in Waterville. The family requests that memorials be made to the Waterville Ambulance Fund, the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society or by donating blood at your local blood bank.
