Barrows, 73, who died Wednesday morning, April 21st, in a Hastings hospital where he had been for the past nine days. He had been in failing health for some time, with little hope held for his recovery during the past week. Born in Waverly, Illinois, June 27, 1874, Mr. Barrows came to Nebraska with the family in 1878, when he was but four years old. He had lived in and near Nelson since that time, with the exception of 15 years, from 1924 to 1939, when the family resided in Hastings. Mrs. Barrows preceded her husband in death in 1928. The only child, Mrs. Albert C. Swanson of Davenport, Iowa, a sister, Grayce Barrows, and a brother, William, are the immediate survivors. Services will be held at 2:30 o'clock, April 23d, in the Klawitter Chapel here, with Dr. W.A. McCall of Hastings in charge. ========================= The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, April 29, 1948; pg. 5 Albert David Barrows, son of Martha E. and Dana (sic) R. Barrows, was born at Waverly, Ill., June 27th, 1874; passed away at Mary Lanning hospital, Hastings, Nebr., on April 21, 1948. When he was four years old the family moved to clay County, Nebr. After living there four years, they moved to Nuckolls County. It was here that he attended school and grew to manhood. He was married December 14, 1901, to Grace O. Carlon, who preceded him in death in 1928. He spent many years as a successful farmer, and took great pride in every phase of this work. Upon moving to Hastings in 1924, he took up carptentering, and was happy at this work. He always put forth his very best effort, that the results of his labor would not fall, but measure up to the best standards. In 1939 following a serious illness, resulting in a bad heart condition, he returned to Nelson to his former home. Since then he had to lead in inactive life, which was a decided change for him; but he still carried on in a cheerful manner, and never complained. He was deeply grateful for his home and the many friends which meant so much to him. When a young man he accepted Christ as his Savior and adopted Christ's teachings as a plan for his life, holding church membership in the First Presbyterian church at Nelson, then at Hastings, and again at Nelson. His daughter Alberta C. Swanson, Glen, Donald and Janet Mae of her husband, the three grandchildren Davenport, Iowa; (NOTE: typed as written in newspaper) one brother, Will Barrows; one sister, Grayce Barrows, both of Nelson; other relatives and many friends will greatly miss him. He was a man who wanted always to live aright, and who gave to his loved ones and friends cheer and encouragement. This little verse is surely a fitting tribute to his life. I want to give good measure running o'er, And into angry hearts I want to pour The answer soft that turneth wrath away; I'm sure I shall not pass again this way, I want to give to others hope and faith; I want to do all that the Master saith; I want to live aright from day to day, I'm sure I shall not pass again this way. The funeral services were held in the Klawitter Chapel Friday, April 23rd, conducted by Dr. W.A. McCall assisted by Rev. Clarence V. Powell.
