Description	:	Mrs. Martha Barrows, daughter of Wilhem and Sarah Roberts, was born in Waverly, Ills., April 6, 1841, and died at her home in Nelson, Nebr., Tuesday night, July 31, 1928; at the ripe old age of 87 years, 3 months and 25 days. Read More	Mrs. Martha Barrows, daughter of Wilhem and Sarah Roberts, was born in Waverly, Ills., April 6, 1841, and died at her home in Nelson, Nebr., Tuesday night, July 31, 1928; at the ripe old age of 87 years, 3 months and 25 days. She was reared to womanhood at her home in Illinois; educated in the public schools and attended Woman's College at Jacksonville, Ills. On November 13, 1866, she was married to Daniel R. Barrows at her home in Waverly. They went to housekeeping for a short time in Illinois, then emigrated to Joplin, Mo., and afterwards to Nebraska, settling on a farm in Clay county (sic). In 1880 they moved onto a farm in Nuckolls county (sic). In 1906 they moved to Nelson, where they have resided ever since. Her husband departed this life for the next world twenty-two years ago. This home was blessed with four children. One died in infancy. Those living to mourn the loss of a real good mother are William A. at Nelson; A.D. Barrows, Hastings; Grayce M. at home. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive her. Mrs. Barrows was one of seven children, all living to a remarkable old age; four survive her: Mrs. Julia Willard and Mrs. Alice Gordon of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Grand Roberts at Altus, Okla., and Ira W. Roberts, Garland, Kansas. The departed was reared in a religious home and in the tender early years of her life she learned to know the Lord Jesus as a precious Saviour. For many years she was a member of the Evangelical church (sic) at Angus, and coming to Nelson she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church in this place in which she has been a very faithful and active member, always willing to do her share in the Auxiliaries of the church. Although frail of body the last few months, she would come to Sunday school, and church just as long as possible. Her "delight was in the Lord." Her friends and loved ones recognized that she was slipping away from them but she was always cheerful with a faith that was steadfast and secure. Though frail of body, she was keen of mind and radiant of soul. The glory of the resurrection morning seemed to shine upon her. Her Red Letter Testament with marks over the precious verses reveals the source of her confidence and trust. She was tenderly cared for in her declining years by her daughter. She will be truly missed in her church and Sunday school; missed by her large circle of friends, and missed in her home. We would hesitate to call her back for the God of love has called her home unto himself. Calm was her spirt as the skies, At evening's holy hush; Strong was her soul as Israel's Chief When God spoke from the bush. Around her, Heavenly light ever shone, And God walked by her side; No dew of fear was on her brow, The day our loved one died. But with the joyful praises she hailed Her release from mortal clay, And the Master came and took her in To the land of eternal day. The funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian church this (Thursday) afternoon. Rev. S.H. Jones conducted the services. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, August 2, 1928; pg. 8
