The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, November 15, 1906; pg. 4 Several of the Oak citizens attended the funeral Saturday of Daniel Barrows, who lived west of town. He died suddenly on Thursday night of heart trouble. Mr. Barrows has lived here 20 years and was highly respected in the community. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, November 15, 1906; pg. 8 Dan R. Barrows was born August 22, 1843, in Greene county (sic) Illinois, and died November 8, 1906, at his home near Angus, Nebraska, being at the time of his death 63 years, 3 months and 16 days of age. On November 13, 1867, he was married to Martha E. Roberts of Waverley, Illinois. His companion of 39 years, lacking five days, still survives him, as do also two sons, William A. and Albert D., with their families, and one daughter, Grayce M., the oldest child, Carrie Y., having preceded her father to the better land when but a mere babe. Bro. Barrows has surviving him one brother, D.C. Barrows of Galatia, Kan., and two sisters, Mrs. D. Tolman of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. W.H. Colean of Girard, Kan. The four had only two weeks ago held a family reunion at the home of the older brother, D.C. Barrows. About 18 years ago Bro. Barrows confessed his faith in Christ and united with the Evangelical church (sic), and his trust from then on was placed firmly in his blessed Saviour. While God took him from us instantly yet we feel that he had need of him and has only taken him home to be at rest. The funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday by Rev. J.F. Green assisted by Rev. T.J. Gollaher of Angus, and Rev. G.B. Bancroft of Nelson, and interment was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic). The scripture read was Rev. 7:9-17. Text, John 11:24-25, "A good man is fallen in Israel." A good husband. A good father. Though a quiet, unassuming man he will be greatly missed, but our loss is his eternal gain.
