He was a man with peculiarities, but of splendid parts. Strictly honest in all his transactions and conscientious to the extreme, he was scrupulously careful with public business and the affairs of others. In early life he learned the printer's trade and followed it more or less all through life, and worked at times at his trade as a typo in Seneca after he served as county clerk. He was of the old school and had learned long ago the importance of a "clean proof" and carried that idea into his life as a Christian gentleman and citizen. He was ready when "30" was hung on the hook and was prepared to "make even" on the last "take." Years ago he published a newspaper at Troy, Kansas, with Sol Miller as his competitor, but could not "weather the storm" that beat against his craft and dropped that effort for a place as mail messenger on the old St Joe & Denver railroad, known today as the St Joseph & Grand Island. A G Sanborn was born in Lowell, Mass, June 5, 1837, and closed life's journey at Seneca, Kansas, March 3, 1917, aged 79 years, 8 months and 28 days. He lived in the town of his birth until 10 years of age, when, with his parents, Mr and Mrs Ransom Sanborn, he moved to Sanbornton, N H, and five years after they moved to Laconia, N H. In 18tt the family located in Dixon, Lee county, Illinois, where in November, 1856, he married Mary Selina Porter, and went to Owatonna, Minn, where his wife died November 11, 1857. February 121, 1861, he married Miss Emma A Johnson. To their union was born, one daughter, Miss Lena Sanborn. In August, 1868, they moved to Savannah, Mo, and in November of the same year to Troy, Kansas. Some years later Mr Sanborn was engaged in the mercantile business at Sabetha, going to California in 1884, and a couple of years later returned to Centralia, where he engaged in business until appointed as county clerk of Nemaha county in 1898, which position he held for four years. July 21, 1907, Mrs Sanborn, whom many of our readers knew, died. Ten days later her daughter Lena followed her, which was a severe blow and loss to Mr Sanborn. After spending one year in entire loneliness a niece of his, Mrs Maude Franklin, with her baby boy, came to live with him, which served to cheer him very much in his affliction. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The deceased had long been a faithful and consistent member of that organization. The sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev Irvin McMurray. The Masonic lodge, of which he was a member, had charge and the A O U W was also in attendance. Burial in the City cemetery.
