Description	:	Alberta Giese, of Spokane, passed away on September 16, 2008. Alberta was born on June 9, 1922, in Monitor, WA to Clarence and Dora Bailey. She spent her childhood growing up in the hills of Kentucky. In the late 1930's, her parents, looking for a better life, loaded up their five kids and all their possessions into their old truck and traveled across the country. Bud worked for the Soil... Read More	Alberta Giese, of Spokane, passed away on September 16, 2008. Alberta was born on June 9, 1922, in Monitor, WA to Clarence and Dora Bailey. She spent her childhood growing up in the hills of Kentucky. In the late 1930's, her parents, looking for a better life, loaded up their five kids and all their possessions into their old truck and traveled across the country. They camped along the way and finally reached Washington State to start a new life. Alberta met Laurence "Bud" Giese in Wenatchee and they were married on February 18, 1949. Bud worked for the Soil Conservation Service and his job moved the family all over central and eastern Washington. Alberta kept busy raising their children, Mary, Mike and Steve. She took pride in keeping a spotless home and her yard was always the envy of the neighborhood. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved decorating her home and baking cookies. She and Bud were transferred to Hawaii, Montana, Oregon and eventually retired to Olympia. They both enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. Bud passed away in March of 1986. Alberta then moved to the Portland area to be closer to family. In Portland, she met many new friends and traveled to Europe, Canada and enjoyed several cruises. She volunteered for the Red Cross and was a tireless worker. In the last few years of her life, she lived in Spokane. She was able to enjoy seeing her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Cadence, and that made her very happy. Alberta is survived by her three children, Mary Arbuckle (husband, Jim) of Tualatin, OR, Michael Giese (wife, Shelley) of Spokane and Stephen Giese (wife, Diane) of Lebanon, OR; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Elmer Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Harold, Cash and Joe Bailey. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Camp Fun in the Sun for Kids with Diabetes, in care of Lisa Randall, P.O. Box 469, Spokane, WA 99210. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
