In 1868, he came with his parents to Webster County where they located on a farm and lived there for 13 years, later settling in Hamilton County, where he had since made his home. On March 16, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Alvina Waller. In June 1932, Mr. and Mrs. Erickson moved from their farm, southeast of town, into Stratford, and have since been residents of this place. He leaves to mourn his early and untimely death, his bereaved wife, two adopted children, Glenn, who lives on the home farm, and Mrs. Melvin (Arlene) Engstrom, who resides northeast of town; three grandchildren, one brother, Will of Valentine, Neb., one sister, Mrs. Axel (Matilda) Newman of Amiret, Minn., other relatives and a great host of friends. Late in November of 1932 his health began to fail. He had been an exceptionally rugged man and for a time it was thought that relief could be obtained for him, but all that medical science and loving care could do was of no avail and a few months ago it was learned that he had but a short time to live. He spent many weeks in patient suffering and through it all was patient and bore his suffering very stoically until the very end. At the general election in November 1932, Mr. Erickson was welected supervisor from this, the second district, by a very substantial majority, the splendid support he was given at that time being a genuine endorsement by all of the people of his sterling worth and character. As township trustee for many years he had demonstrated his ability and integrity to handle the affairs of the township economically and with the best interests of the township at hand. Had he been able to step into the office to which he was elected he would have demonstrated again his ability to handle the many affairs of his district just as well. Always reliable and dependable, he was outspoken in what he thought would be the best for all, yet he was never harsh in his judgment of the plans of others. It is men of the stamp of the late Mr. Erickson who are vital to any community and who, because of his superior judgment and intelligence in the handling of important matters, will be missed by all for years to come. As vice president of the board of directors of the Farmers Savings Bank through the trying times of the past two years, he had been a mainstay and his counsel was always wise and accepted by fellow members whenever matters of vital importance had to be taken care of. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 in the family residence, where many friends paid their last respects to a departed neighbor and friend, and at 2:30 in the local Baptist Church. The auditorium of the church was filled with people long before the hour set for the service so a loud speaker was placed in the basement which was also filled and a great many stood outside of the building. The services were in charge of the pastor, the Rev. A.E. Applequist, who also sang a solo. Several vocal numbers were sang by a quartet composed of Mesdames Oscar Borg, A.E. Applequist, Roy Carlson and Miss Vernice Johnson. Many of the county officials attended the services among them being Supervisors Klaver and Price, who would have been his colleagues had he lived to take office. The large numbers of beautiful flowers, which banked the casket and many tables, attested to the love his hosts of friends had for him. The remains were laid to rest in the Hardin Township Cemetery, near which burying ground the early life of deceased had been spent. The pall bearers were: Carl Bergman, J.O. Westrum, Nels Peterson, Martin Olsson of Stanhope, John Erickson and Sam Swedlund.
