She died Friday, April 4th, 2014 at the Bethel Home in Montezuma, KS. Alice was born to David H. and Anna Hoeppner Dyck on August 9, 1922, at Hillsboro, KS. She was a homemaker and mother of ten children, all but one of whom survive her. She lived in rural Glenn County for many years, and at Bethel Home, Montezuma., KS. for the past thirteen years. Survivors include six sons: Leonard, Paul, Roland, Ronald, Howard and Jesse, all of Glenn; three daughters: Ruth Koehn of Bayliss, Edith Eck of Buhl, Idaho; and Salome Loewen, of Willows, CA; one brother: Harvey Dyck, of Atwater, CA; two sisters: Mary Ann Friesen and Martha Mae Penner, of Moundridge, KS., and three sisters-in-laws, Mary Giesbrecht, of Glenn, CA.; Verna Dyck, of Atwater, CA.; and Rosella Dyck, of Moundridge, KS.; fifty grandchildren; one step -grandson, one hundred twenty five great- grandchildren, and sixteen great-great grandchildren. Her husband and one son preceded her in death. Burial will be in the Willows Cemetery following the service. F. D. Sweet and Son Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on Apr. 9, 2014 ------------------------------------------ Alice and Dick Loewen were married on April 11, 1943 in Hillsboro, Kansas.They lived in Winton, CA until 1951 when they moved to Glenn.Her husband was ordained to the ministry in 1956.btw, their oldest children were twins: Ruth & Leonard in 1944; Paul & Edith in 1946; Roland & Ronald in 1951. Then they moved to Glenn and they stopped coming two at a time. Then Salome 1955, Howard 1958, Jesse 1961 and Maynard 1965, who died in 1967. There is a memorial for Maynard at Find-A-Grave. Contributed By Lorraine Richards ***************** Full obit published in Messenger of Truth Issue 9, 2014: Alice Dyck Loewen, was born to David H. and Anna Hoeppner Dyck on August 9, 1922, near Hillsboro, Kansas. She grew up there together with her four brothers and five sisters. She went to school at Ebenfeldt School where she learned English and arithmetic, enjoyed playing baseball and basketball, and learned the German language. Through faith in the Lord Jesus, she gave her heart and life to God at the age of seventeen. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by her cousin, Min. Harry Wenger, on January 23, 1938, at Hillsboro, Kansas. She was a faithful Christian throughout the remainder of her life. We believe that by grace she has a place in heaven. During her youth, she went to California with one of her brothers to work in the peach harvest. Here she met a young man named Dick Loewen. She went home to Kansas after the harvest, but it was not long before Dick asked to marry her. They were married on April 11, 1943. Our mom started out by giving birth to twins, three times. When the rest of the ten children came one by one, she thought it was easy. In the midst of the family years, our parents became some of the early ones to move from Winton, California, to the new congregation at Glenn. This took place in December, 1951. She became a minister's wife when Dad was ordained in 1955. She had always been hospitable, but we remember her henceforth as being "given to hospitality" in the biblical sense. She had her principles of preparedness, and they were often put to use. She gave wholehearted support to Dad in his vocation. Our parents' lives were touched by deep sadness when their last born, Maynard, was taken from them in a drowning accident at the age of two years in 1967. This left an indelible mark on Mom's life, but she kept a positive outlook and was known for her friendly smile. All who remember her well are familiar with her saying, "The truth is the truth." A love for the truth governed and tempered her life. With her clear soprano voice, Mom loved to sing, and a familiar sight was a songbook propped above the kitchen sink as she washed the supper dishes. She kept that love for song until the end. Even when it was too hard for her to carry on a conversation, she would still sing in English or German. Our dad left Mom behind when he departed this life in September, 1997. She carried on bravely, but she was also beginning to feel the effects of Parkinsonism. It became more and more difficult for her to manage on her own. When the choice of places where she could receive care was placed before her, she said she was a Kansas girl and wanted to go back there. So she went to Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas. Since most of her family remained in California, she relied upon the wonderful care that she received there at Bethel Home. How can we as a family express enough thanks to all those who have cared spiritually and physically for our mother these last thirteen years? Those of us left to remember her include the following sons and daughters: Leonard; Ruth and husband, Robert Koehn; Paul and wife, Vicki, all of Glenn, California; Ruth Loewen, Sedalia, Kentucky; Edith and husband, Harold Eck, Buhl, Idaho; Roland and wife, Teresa; Ronald and wife, Dolores, all of Glenn, California; Salome, Chico, California; Howard and wife, Elsie; and Jesse and wife, Pamela, all of Glenn, California; brothers and sisters: Harvey and wife, Theda, Atwater, California; Mary Ann Friesen, and Martha Mae and husband, Richard Penner, Moundridge, Kansas; and sisters-in-law: Rosella Dyck, Moundridge, Kansas; Verna Dyck, Atwater, California; Agnes Loewen, Sun City, Arizona; and Mary Giesbrecht, Glenn, California; brother-in-law, Walter Ensz, Louisville, Georgia. She also leaves fifty grandchildren, one stepgrandson, 125 great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. Those who preceded her include the following: her husband, one son, two infant grandsons, two infant great-granddaughters, her parents, three brothers, four sisters, seven brothers-in-law, and seven sisters-in-law. A memorial was held at Bethel Home, Montezuma, Kansas, on April 6, 2014. The funeral took place at Glenn, California, on April 10, 2014. Officiating ministers were David Spence, Greg Dyck, and Logan Giesbrecht. Burial was in the Willows Cemetery, Willows, California. Contributed By Jcarter
