Description	:	Mrs Alice Reed, pioneer resident of Overbrook community died at the farm home where she had lived for fifty-five years, Wednesday morning, January 26, after a short illness. Attending her constantly during that illness were her three daughters, Mrs George Branson and Mrs Roy N Baker of Overbrook, and Mrs Walter D Miller, Topeka, and her sister Mrs Ada Young, Overbrook. Time and place of the funeral service will be Friday at 2:30 pm at the Methodist Church. Burial will be in Overbrook cemetery. Overbrook Citizen-Jan 27, 1944 Alice Lemons, Eldest daughter of George W and Elizabeth (Murdock) Lemons, was born in Sinks Grove, West Virginia on December 16, 1864, and departed this life, January 26, 1944, at the age of 79 years 1 month 10 days. She grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she was born, entered into the social and religious activities of the community, and made her contribution to the welfare and happiness of her Generation. She was a member of the Methodist Church to which organization she proved faithful. On April 15, 1885, she was united in marriage to Henderson A Reed and immediately came to Kansas; settled in Carbondale for three years, then moved to the present farm home near Overbrook, where she resided at the time of her death. To this union were born seven children; three sons, Clyde, Asa, and Earle; four daughters, Zella, Mae, Grace, and Lavona, of which two preceded her in death. Besides her childrenm there were six step-children of whom five resided for some time in the home. Mrs Reed had lived in the community for fifty-five years, always willing to offer her service for the welfare of her neighbors and friends. Her husband passed away Sept 27, 1917, and since that time had faithfully carried on alone, managed her farm, and made a home for herself, which she loved dearly. Those who survive are Clyde Reed of Hunington Park, California; Earl Reed, Denver, Colorado; Mrs Zella Miller of Topeka; Mrs Mae Baker and Mrs Grace Branson of Overbrook; also three step-sons, Charley N Reed, Overbrook; Arthur L Reed, Carbondale and Otis L Reed, Hoquaim, Washington; a step-daughter, Nrs Laura Hines of Burns, a sister, Mrs Ada Young, Carbondale; two brothers, G W Lemons, Ronceverte, W Va; Frank H Lemons, Grand Pass, Oregon; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, thriteen step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great grandchildren, six step great great grandchildren, other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Friday pm January 28, at Overbrook Methodist church, Rev Earl O Harbour of West Heights church, Kansas City, Kansas, officiated assisted by Rev Clayton Pittman of the Overbrook Church. Mrs Joe Coffman and Mrs Clyde Coffman, accompanied by Mrs James Sullivan sang "It is well with my soul" and "Saved by Grace". Rev Pittman sang "Going Home" as a solo. Pallbearers were Roy Salsbury, William Hase, Cecil Krause, Roy Simon, Clyde Griffin and Ralph Maichel. Interment was in Overbrook cemetery. Overbrook Citizen-February 3, 1944
