But, there is no source for that. Whoever created that page (could have been anyone) put that as a place of birth without sourcing it. Napoleon's father, William, arrived in Indiana with his brother, John, in 1801 to begin settling Dubois County. If William left his wife, Jane, behind (in Kentucky) until he established the homestead, then perhaps Napoleon was born in KY if William traveled between KY and IN during the early settlement period. There is also this... "A DARING RESCUE: In 1804, the Indians became so threatening John and William McDonald took their families to Jeffersonville, Indiana, on pack mules, then returned to tend their crops. One of the men would stand guard with his gun while the other worked the land. In the late summer of that year, eight Indians captured and kidnapped two women and two children in Kentucky, and fled with them towards Indiana, with eight Kentuckians in hot pursuit. After six hard days of travel, the Indians and their captives were tracked by the Kentuckians to near where Harbison Township is now, where they lost the trail. * At that time, John and William McDonald were still at their cabin while their families stayed at Jeffersonville. * " This is now the "late summer", and Napoleon was born in May. My educated guess says he was born in Jeffersonville. Of course, the excerpt does not say when they returned with their families. But, that info might be in the book referenced, "Col. William M. Cockrum's 'Pioneer History of Indiana,' published 1907, pgs. 496-499. An abbreviated version is also given in Wilson's History." That still leaves John, born 5 Dec 1806. Was he also born in Jeffersonville, or someplace else because of the need to leave yet again because of the Indians? Or, was he born in what we now know of Dubois County?
