She was the oldest of 13 children and helped care for her younger siblings. She was raised in the Mennonite faith. She later moved to Miller, S.D., where she met and married Alexander Haeffner in 1928. They had one daughter, LaVerne Irene and then later adopted a son, Norman Lee. Johnny Wedmore later joined the family as a foster son. She spent her life giving to others. They opened up their home to various foster children. Alma was an avid reader. She was a talented quilt maker; she was known for her quality handstitching. She won an award at a local home show for her beautiful quilts. Years later, she enjoyed being cook at the Roy Hauck Ranch. Alma is survived by her daughter LaVern of Miller; her son, Norman (Paulette) of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Nina Burkey of York, Neb., Edna Onstad of Helena, Mont., Florence Wilmes of Chester, Mont., Doris Stubsten of Helena, Mont., and Elaine Wilmes of Missoula, Mont.; two brothers, Walter Rediger of Grant's Pass, Ore. and Cliff Rediger of Ft. Pierre, S.D.; and one sister-in-law, Rachel Rediger of Mesa, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her great-grandson, Charles James, who died in infancy; two sisters, Elsie Duffy and Vada Hauder; three brothers, Willard Rediger, Clyde Rediger and Earl Rediger; her son-in-law, Gearold Phillips; and her foster son, Johnny Wedmore.
