It should be used with some caution but is transcribed below for interest: Fairfield Ledger October 9, 1901 Pg. 3 Col. 2&3 Death of a Good Woman Almira, wife of William GILBERT, died in this city Friday, after an illness of several months. Her remains were interred Sunday afternoon in the Evergreen cemetery, Rev. J. E. Corley, pastor of the First Methodist church, assisted by Rev. J. F. Magill, conducting funeral services at the family residence on East Washington street. Mrs. GILBERT was a duaghter of teh late Samuel MOORE of Cedar township. She was born in Hancock county, Ill., April 8th, 1836, and came to this county with her parents in the autumn of the same year. She was married here to William GILBERT November 27, 1869, and was the mother of four children. Two of them, Edward and Mary A., wife of M.J. LIBLIN, survive her. A son, Charles, died in infancy, while Emma, wife of George GIBSON, died December 11, 1895. Mrs. L.J. YOUST, New London; Mrs. Melisa FERGUSON, Colo; Daniel MOORE, Stockton, Kan.; Geo. H. MOORE, Schuyler, Neb., are the surviving members of her father's family. Mrs. GILBERT united with the Methodist Episcopal church when seventeen years of age and her life was ever that of the faithful and consistent christian. She was a splendid woman and her life was filled with good works which reached beyond her own family circle. Not only was she a faithful wife and devoted mother, but her home was the home of at least two motherless children. Many expressions of sympathy from those who knew this good woman will go out to the bereaved husband and family. -------- Note: Differences from the obituary noted from other sources - DOB - April 9, 1836, Morgan county, Illinois. Married Nov. 26, 1861 in Jefferson county. Name of son who died in infancy: Charley (on headstone inscription). -------- Special note: Although there is an inscription for Charley (a/k/a Charlie a/k/a Charles) Gilbert, their son, on this Gilbert family monument, the child was and is buried at Pattison cemtery SE of Fairfield, Iowa. There are no records supporting a reburial to this lot in Evergreen cemetery. The child died more than seven years before the establishment of Evergreen cemetery.
