Read More	Fairfield Daily Journal Tuesday February 11, 1919 EDWIN GILBERT DROPPED DEAD LATE YESTERDAY Edwin GILBERT, a well known blacksmith of this city came to his death suddenly late yesterday afternoon. The exact time of his death is not known, but his body was found on the walk leading to his home on East Washington St., about four thirty o'clock. Mr. GILBERT had been feeling in his usual health yesterday and had attended the HAGUE and GERTON sale in the afternoon and later had been seen up town. It is not known whether on his return home he became ill and started for his home from the blacksmith shop or whether he had finished his work and had started from the house to get ready to come to town for his supper. When his body was found Mr. GILBERT still wore his cap and glasses and there was no sign of a struggle or pain in the face, appoplexy being given as the cause of his death. Rev. B.F. HUBBARD who was walking on the other side of the street discovered the body lying in the yard and called to two boys, Byron WEST and James LAMSON. Cororner W.H. Conner was called but it was not necessary to hold an inquest. The remains were later taken to the Kerrick Undertaking Parlors. Edwin GILBERT was the son of William and Almira GILBERT and was born in Fairfield on May 29th, 1866. He has always made his home in this city and has followed the trade of blacksmith for a great number of years. On July 1st, 1890 he was united in marriage to Ida SARGENT, to this union was born one son, Reuben GILBERT of this city. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mollie A. LIBLIN also of Fairfield, and a host of other relatives and friends. A brother, Charles GILBERT, and a sister, Emma GIBSON have preceded him in death. The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. Mollie LIBLIN, at 11 a.m. tomorrow. ------- Referred to as "Edward" in the obituary/death notice of his father. "Edwin" is what is engraved on his headstone and used in his own obituary, however. Married to Ida Sargent in 1890 and one son, Reuben. Divorced.
