Alonzo Alexander Shackelton was born January 5, 1899, in Hay Springs, Nebraska. He came with his parents to Newport in 1902 and most of his life was spent in Pend Oreille county. He was married in 1920 to Minerva Williams and in 1924 the family moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where they lived until 1930 when they came to Ione where he has been in business since. In 1950 he came to Metaline and Metaline Falls. He served with the American air forces in World War I, attached to Royal British Air force serving in France, and has been a member of The American Legion since its beginning. He was also a member of the Elks lodge in Colville, of the Athletic Round Table in Spokane and the Washington State Auto Dealers association. He has served in the town government of both Ione and Metaline, having been mayor of Ione. He has been a member of the board of Mt. Linton hospital, serving since its beginning. He was active in civic affairs of all the communities in which he lived. He is survived by his wife, Minerva, at the home; three daughters, Mrs. Rae McCain, Metaline Falls, Mrs. Betty Lee Boyd, Spokane, Mrs. Patti Ann Bergau, Dalkena; four sons, Wade, Metaline Falls, Bruce, Ione, William J., San Francisco, Calif., and Dennis of Metaline Falls; two brothers, Ralph of Priest lake, Idaho, and Orrie of Vancouver, Washington, and 22 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Erwin P. Jones, L. A. Rohlf, L. B. Olson, L. M. Kinney, Lee Malkson, C. W.
