She was born Nov. 1, 1910, in Mercer County, Mo., the daughter of Elmer and Nellie Miller McQuerry. She came with her family at an early age to Kansas, settling near Hamlin where she grew up and attended school. Mrs. Rotz worked for several years in the lunchroom at Powhattan School. She and her husband also farmed and raised livestock south of Hiawatha for many years before they retired... She was born Nov. 1, 1910, in Mercer County, Mo., the daughter of Elmer and Nellie Miller McQuerry. She came with her family at an early age to Kansas, settling near Hamlin where she grew up and attended school. Mrs. Rotz worked for several years in the lunchroom at Powhattan School. She and her husband also farmed and raised livestock south of Hiawatha for many years before they retired and moved to the city. She was a member of Powhattan United Methodist Church and the UMW at the church. She later was a member of First Baptist Church of Hiawatha and the ABW at the church. She also was a member of Zenith Chapter 184, Order of Eastern Star of Hiawatha, and the KK Community Club of Hiawatha. She married Ralph Rotz on May 17, 1927, at Hiawatha. He died Feb. 5, 1994. She also was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters. Survivors include a son, Charles Rotz, Independence, Mo.; three daughters, Beverly McKee, Hoyt, Joy Bauman, Chapman, and Kay Wilkes, Groveland, Fla.; two brothers, Don McQuerry, Hemet, Calif., and Leonard McQuerry, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Dec. 2 in Hiawatha Cemetery, with Vern Finley, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Maple Heights Nursing Home, sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 124 S. Seventh St., Hiawatha, KS 66434.
