Alta Lillian Martin was born December 26, 1912 in Lancaster, Missouri, the daughter of S. C. (sic. Samuel C.) and Bertha Vandike (sic. note that the family name is one-word, not "Van Dike"). She was reared and educated in Lancaster, Missouri, and Bloomfield, Iowa. She graduated from the Bloomfield high school in 1931. She was married March 15, 1931, to Edward A. Martin in Bloomfield and with her husband has made her home in Fairfield for the last 12 years. She was a member of the Christian church, Chapter E, T.T.T., and Chapter C. P.E.O. Surviving are her husband, one son, Nick; her father, S.C. Vandike of Clarinda; two brothers, Warren Vandike of Lancaster, Missouri, and R. C. Vandike of Clarinda; two sisters, Mrs. L. D. Spurgeon, Bloomfield, and Mrs. Ralph Hughes, Clarinda. She was preceded in death by her mother, one sister and a brother.
