Read More	Storm Lake Pilot Tribune, 22 Feb 1940, Pg 7 Amanda Strausbaugh Krout was born at York in York County, Pennsylvania on Nov. 4, 1849 and passed away at her home in Rembrandt, Monday morning Feb 12 at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 5 days. While a young girl, she was baptized and united with the German Lutheran Church in York. On Dec 23, 1896 she was united in marriage to John Baker Krout, who preceded her in death just last December 23 on their 70th wedding anniversary. To this union, 10 children were born, all of whom survive with the exception of their daughter, Mrs. Daisy Seigel. The family came to Aurelia 52 years ago and moved to Rembrandt 17 years later, living here for more than 20 years. Through their declining years, both Mr. and Mrs. Krout enjoyed good health. Last spring, an operation revealed a cancerous undergrowth which resulted in Mr. Krout's death, but she bravely carried on under the great strain of being without her life partner. On Sunday night, she retired, apparently feeling as well as usual. She awoke around 1 a.m. and again around 2 o'clock, but lapsed into unconsciousness. Death came very easily about 7:30. At her bedside were two daughters, Minnie and Mabel. The immediate family, left to mourn are four sons: Jake of Minneapolis, Will of Towner, North Dakota, Howard of Cherokee, Lyle of Storm Lake; five daughters: Mrs. Anna Wright of Sioux Rapids, Mrs. Minnie Mahn of Cherokee, Mrs. Carrie Armstrong of Mattoon, Illinois, Mrs. Cora Becker of Grand View, Washington and Mrs. Mabel Kidman of Storm Lake; one sister, Mrs. Carolina Schlosser of York, Pa. besides 64 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb 15 in the home at 2:30 and at 1 p.m. in the Rembrandt Methodist Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. S.J. Wallace. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet which sang "In the Gardem." "Asleep in the Arms of Jesus," and "Nearer my God to Thee." Mrs. E. W. Albertson was at the piano. The floral tribunes were many and beautiful. Bearers were six grandsons, Johnnie Krout of Everly, John Arthur and Earl Mahn of Cherokee, Clarence Krout and Marvin Kidman of Storm Lake. Burial was by the side of her husband in the Lone Tree cemetery near Sioux Rapids. Relatives in attendance on Thursday froma distance included: Mrs. Otto Armstrong of Mattoon, Ill., Jake Krout of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. and Mrs. John Drake of Sutherland, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gill and daughter of Meriden. Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Pressel and Mrs. Will Armstrong of Lake Park. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fogelman, Mr. and Mrs. John Mahn. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mahn and Howard Krout and daughters of Cherokee. Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Krout of Everly. Mrs. Harold McCone of Slayton, Minn. Mr. and Mrs.Frank Sanderman and Mrs. Mary Mummert of Aurelia and Coover Pressel of Sioux City. Seven of the surviving children were present and two unable to be here were Mrs. Cora Becker of Grand View, Washington and Will Krout of Towner, North Dakota, who were visitors in the Krout home last fall.
