He was the oldest child of Joseph and Mary Jane Hostetler. Until he was 15 years of age he resided at Merrittstown, Pa., with his parents. From there he moved to Simpson, Kan., where his father took a homestead. Here, he worked industriously to aid, in keeping and improving the home. In 1885 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Margaret Ott, at Glasco. Seven children were born to this union: Mrs. Clemmie Clinkenbeard, residing near Delphos; Ross E., of Colton, Calif.; George M., of The Dalles, Oregon; Matt J., Ruby and Carl O., of Glasco; Lloyd F., who died in infancy. He lived near Simpson with his family until 1904. At that time he took up his home at The Dalles, Oregon. He lived there only two years and came back to Kansas and resided near Glasco until his death. At the age of 41, he entered the Fraternal Aid Union and has been a member of that lodge ever since. He was always an honest and strictly moral man. Through his sickness and suffering, he was cheerful and hopeful. He confessed that if God Willed that he should meet death, he was ready, but if he could get well he would be God's servant to the end. Besides a wife, four sons and two daughters, there are three sisters, Mrs. Emma Ainsworth, of Orange, Calif; Mrs. Alice Jamison, of Glasco; and Mrs. Mollie Ott, of The Dalles, Oregon; also one brother, Mr. J.C. Hostetler of The Dalles, Oregon, who deeply mourn his death. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the home at 3 o'clock, Rev.
