Description	:	Andrew was born near Sartoria, Nebraska to Herman and Otelliea Jahn Jones. Andrew spent his boyhood on various farms helping his family with planting and harvesting. He was quite an accomplished "corn picker" which was done by hand in those days. After struggling through the 1930's, he and his brother Howard attended Swallow Aircraft School in Kansas. Andrew and Howard arrived in California in May of 1941 and worked at Lockheed during WWII building P38 Lightning military aircraft. Roviene Martin and Andrew were married April 7, 1942. Following the war, the couple returned to Nebraska and were engaged in farming. Linda Elyse and Mildred Lorraine were born in Nebraska and attended school in Berwyn, Nebraska near their farm. The Joneses returned in California in the 1950's. Their son Byron was born while they briefly lived in Colorado. During this time Andrew studied aircraft mechanics and changed professions. They ended their journey in 1959, arriving in the Bay Area where "Andy" returned to working for Lockheed Missiles and Aircraft Corporation. Andy and Roviene reached Fremont in 1960 and established their home. Andrew and Roviene made connections in the community by becoming founding members of Thornton Avenue Baptist Church. He reached out into the community through his work at Lockheed, the church, and youth sports programs. Andy never put himself first, always giving the best of himself to others. In death, Andy is survived by his wife and children, Linda, Mildred and Byron; son-in-law Edwin Zinman; daughter-in-law Diane Jones; grandchildren Elyse Frank and husband Aaron Frank, Amber Jones, Aaron Zinman, Joy Franco, and Christine Jones; great-grandchildren, Madeleine and William Frank, Yanire Connor; brother, Calvin "Hap" Jones of Thedford, Nebraska; and numerous relatives and friends.∼ANDREW HERMAN JONES June 1, 1914 - December 8, 2007 Born "in the home" near Sartoria, Nebraska, to Herman and Otellia Jones, our father initially moved to California in 1941, and during World War II worked at Lockheed in Los Angeles building P38 Lightning military aircraft. It was during this time that he married our mother Ida Roviene. Prior to this time both had lived as children in Nebraska, growing up and working as farmers. Following the war they returned to Nebraska where they returned to living as farmers and raised their daughters Linda Elyse and Mildred Lorraine. They started their return to California in the 1950's, having their son Byron Michael while briefly living in Colorado. During this time, Andrew studied aircraft mechanics and changed professions. They ended their journey in 1959, arriving in the Bay Area where "Andy" returned to working for Lockheed Missiles and Aircraft Corporation. Andy and Roviene reached Fremont in 1960 and established their home. With his wife, Andy remained the rest of his life in Fremont, quickly establishing connections in the community by becoming founding members of Thornton Avenue Baptist Church. Andy reached out into the community through his work at Lockheed, the church, and youth sports programs. Andy never put himself first, always giving the best of himself to others. In death, Andy is survived by his wife and children, son-in-law Edwin Zinman, daughter-in-law Diane Jones, grandchild Elyse Frank and husband Aaron Frank, grandchildren Amber Jones, Aaron Zinman, Joy Franco, and Christine Jones, and great-grandchildren Madeleine and William Frank, and Yanire Connor. Additionally, our father is survived by his brother Calvin "Hap" Jones and numerous relatives. We mourn his passing from our lives but cherish our memories of his inspiring, giving soul. The funeral to honor our father will be held Thursday, December 13th, at Lima Cedar Lawn, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd., in Fremont, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Andy's friends are invited to attend, with a small reception to follow at a nearby location.
