He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was a native of Mathews County and was the son of the late Jefferson and Margaret Culpepper James. Mr. James retired as Vice President of J.C. Read More	Daily Press (Newport News, VA) - Wednesday, December 29, 2004 Andrew James Sr., 90, passed away on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was a native of Mathews County and was the son of the late Jefferson and Margaret Culpepper James. Mr. James retired as Vice President of J.C. Brown Oil Co. in 1984. He was a member of Singleton United Methodist Church in Schley, the United Methodist Men and served on numerous other committees of the church. He was a member of Botetourt Masonic Lodge #7 for over 60 years, the Tidewater Shrine Club, The Khedive Temple, the Royal Arch Chapter, the Order of the Eastern Star, and numerous other Masonic organizations. He was also a member of the Gloucester Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josephine Brown James of Gloucester; his son, Andy James Jr. and his wife, Roberta, and their children, Jeff James and his wife, Jennifer, Haley Poulson and her husband, Chris, and Josh James; his daughter, Brownie J. Bartley and her husband, Ted, of Schley, and their children, Jill Jones and her husband, Terry, and Vance Bartley and his wife, Kerrie; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert James of Mobjack, Va., and Frank James of Portsmouth, Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, in Singleton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Les Goode. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 6 p.m.
