Geyer (w)as born in Muskingdom county, Ohio, September 18, 1827, and died in Colorado Springs, Colorado, December 26, 1918, aged 91 years, 3 months and 8 days. Father Geyer came to Morrow county, Ohio, with his parents when a small boy and grew to manhood in the same community where he lived until the year 1880, when he sold his farm and moved to Brown county, Kansas, with his family and bought a farm near Hiawatha, Kansas, which he owned up to the time of his death. He was married to Charlotte Valentine in 1852. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom are living: Julietta M. Perkey, Hiawatha, Kans.; Sarah E. Valentine, of Hiawatha, Kans.; Elza L. Geyer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Henry H. Geyer, of Santa Ana, Calif.; Almeda Smith, of Santa Ana, Calif.; Nathaniel F. Geyer, who is an invalid in the Topeka State Hospital; Charles E. Geyer, of Lomond, Canada. William B. Geyer and an infant son died when small. Seventeen grand-children, twelve great grand-children, also two brothers, Jacob Y. Geyer at the Soldiers' Home, Leavenworth, Kans., and William H. H. Geyer at Edison, Ohio, still survive him. His general health was good, however, he had a general breakdown the first of last May and was on the decline and confined to his bed until his death. Father Geyer served his country in the Civil War having enlisted with the 88th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, for the period of two years or until the close of the war. The war closed when he had been in a little less than a year. He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church when he was twenty-one years old and remained a member of the same to the time of his death. He was a class-leader in the church for many years and an earnest worker for his Master. He went to Colorado Springs with his son Elza, November, 1917, where he made his home to the time of his death. Since the death of his wife he had made his home almost exclusively with his son Elza and his daughter, Mrs. Valentine. Mother Geyer died November 11, 1905, thirteen years ago. The funeral was conducted from the home of W. L. Valentine, December 29, 1918, at 1:30, the Rev. Edwin T. Rice officiating. The Methodist choir, led by Mr. Clair Harpster, rendered most excellent music. The floral tributes by the children and grandchildren were beautiful. The remains were interred in the Hiawatha cemetery on the neatly provised lot beside his companion.∼Colorado Springs Gazette, Colorado Springs, CO Friday, 27 Dec. 1918 page 12 Andrew R. Geyer, 91, died yesterday at the home of his son, Rev. E.J. Geyer, 822 North Corona street. He was a member of the Kansas conference of the Methodist Episcopal church and had lived here for more than a year. The body will be taken to Hiawatha, Kan., for burial.
