Mr. Andrew Vander Stoep died Saturday afternoon very unexpectedly as he had enjoyed good health until the very last. Mr Vander Stoep died at the age of 83 years and 24 days. He was born at Pella, Iowa, on June 29, 1867. Mr. Vander Stoep spent all of his life in this community and was united in marriage to Alyda Wesselink. He had enjoyed forty four years of married life and on January 4, 1937 she preceded him in death. To this union were born five sons and four daughters; D.H. Vander Stoep of Lynden, Wash.; Johanna (Mrs. Elmer Olson) of Sioux City; James of Evansville, Ind.; Sadie, who was staying with her father; Lillian (Mrs. John Miller) of Wichita, Kans.; Claude of Sioux Center; Dr. Harry Vander Stoep of LeMars, and Mary (Mrs. William Kooi) of Pittman, N.J. One son preceded him in death, Harbers in 1935. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mr. Vander Stoep was one of the early business men of Sioux Center and spent almost all his life time in business until about 13 years ago when he retired. In his early years he served as mayor of Sioux Center. Mr. Vander Stoep's sudden passing will be mourned by a host of relatives and friends. He was one of the early members of the Central Reformed Church and had served as an honorary elder for years. -Obituary from The Sioux Center News (7/27/1950)
