No funeral arrangements have been made. Mrs Broyles was eighty four years of age, and is survived by three daughters, Mrs Nick Thull, Hopkins; Mrs D.T. Dalrymple, Burlington Junction; Mrs Charles Crosser, Kansas City; and a son A.J. Broyles, Broken Bow, Nebr. Her husband died about ten years ago. [THE MARYVILLE TRIBUNE, June 10, 1924] Obituary of Mrs Jefferson Broyles Angeline Shields, was born in Kentucky, January 13, 1838 and died Jun 10, 1924 at the St Francis hospital Maryville, Missouri aged eighty-six years, four months, and twenty seven days. She was married to Jefferson Broyles March 5, 1854. They resided near Brownsville, Nebraska until 1866 when they came to Nodaway county, Missouri and resided on a farm about nine miles west of Maryville and lived in that vicinity ever since. Her husband preceded her in death in 1915. To this union ten children were born, five of whom died in early childhood and one daughter, Sarah, wife of Nick Thull died in 1889; the other four surviving children, Mrs Amanda Closser, of Kansas City; Mrs Jennie Thull of Hopkins, Missouri, Mr Asa J. Broyles of Broken Bow, Nebraska and Mrs Alice Dalrymple of Burlington Junction, Missouri were present at the funeral services. She leaves twenty one grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Her death was due to declining years. Three weeks before her death she sustained a fall resulting in a broken hip which doubtless hastened her death. The funeral services were conducted by Rev Shemwell of Maryville, Missouri, June 11, at Wilcox, Missouri from the home of a nephew, Mr Charles Broyles, and the body was laid to rest in the Cain cemetery near there. The family bible record, her marriage license, census records, death certificate and obituary all state her name is Angeline. Jeff and Angeline were married 05 Mar 1856 in Atchison County, Missouri. There first 4 children were born there. They then moved with other family members to Custer County, Nebraska where the fifth child, Sarah Frances Broyles was born 20 Apr 1865. The next year, the first four children died of cholera (1) Nancy Elizabeth, 05 Dec 1856 - 25 Aug 1866 (2) William Richard, 11 Sep 1858 - 25 Aug 1866 (3) Henry Albert, 19 Jan 1861 - 22 Aug 1866 (4) James Russell, 17 Apr 1863 - 10 Aug 1866. It is not known whether these children died in Nebraska or in Missouri as the next child born was Mary Juletta 26 Sep 1867 in Nodaway County, Mo. She died 07 Oct 1879 in Nodaway Co, Mo. These dates are taken from the family bible. The family bible gives Angeline's birth date as 13 Jan 1838 as does her obituary and census records. The death certificate filled in by her daughter gave the birth as 13 Jan 1837.
