Wheat had passed away at Salt Lake City, Utah, where she had been taken a few days before for the benefit of her declining health. The body was brought to Virginia City for burial, the obsequies conducted at St. Paul's Elling Memorial church by Rev. H. G. Wakefield, the Order of Eastern Star ritual being used and a choir of that order furnishing the music. The pall bearers were M. M. Duncan, John R. Dullea, W. A. Francis, George E. Gohn, George R. Allen and A. J. Wilcomb. Many friends attended the body to its last resting place, and as many business houses as could closed during the service. Mrs. Wheat was a woman of many excellent qualities, a loving mother, an obliging neighbor and a sincere friend. She was born May 24th, 1855, at Burlington, Ia., and came to Montana on July 12, 1875. Her union to G. B. Wheat, who survives her, was consummated on November 26, 1877, by the Reverend Hugh Duncan. Gilbert G. Wheat and Mabel J. Fenner are the surviving children, while her sisters and brothers are Mrs. C. H. Buford, Lizzie Steffens, Ida C. Steffens and H. E. Steffens.
