Wedding and 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary Miss Anna G. Conroy and M.E. Murphy were married this weekend and are now spending their honeymoon at the exposition and visiting relatives in Nebraska, They will be at home to their many friends after September 15th at their home south of town. Murphy of Walnut observed their golden wedding anniversary yesterday, when they held an open house in the afternoon from 2 to 5 to a large number of relatives and friends. In the morning at 9 0'clock Mr. Murphy's brother, Msgr. Thomas P. Murphy of Des Moines celebrated the anniversary Mass for the couple at St. Patrick's church in Walnut and bestowed the papal blessing. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy were the recipients of many flower, gifts and messages of congratulations. The couple was married by the Rev. Father Daly in Atlantic Sept. 7, 1898 and has resided since on the same farm four and one-half miles north of Marne. Mrs. Murphy, the former Anna G. Conroy, was born in Shelby county June 24, 1876, the daughter of John and Margaret Conroy. Mr. Murphy was the son of Patrick and Hanora Murphy and was born in Cass county Nov. 13, 1872. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy have five children, Mrs. Harley Baxter and Mrs. Clyde Graham of Atlantic, Miss Evelyn Murphy of Omaha, Bernard and Tom Murphy, at home and five grandchildren. (Atlantic Telegraph 9-8-1948) Obituary Mrs. Anna Gertrude Murphy of Walnut passed away at St. Vincent's Home at Omaha on Tuesday evening, January 7, 1964. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 a. m. at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Walnut with Father Joseph Schulte celebrant of the Mass. Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:30 at the Berthusen Funeral Home in Walnut. Anna Gertrude, the daughter of John Conroy and his wife Margaret O'Donnell Conroy, was born June 24, 1876 in Clay Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She has been a lifelong resident of the Walnut Community. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Murphy, who passed away June 20, 1963. Survivors include three daughters, Veronica (Mrs. Clyde Graham) of Des Moines, Miss Evelyn Murphy of Omaha and Mildred (Mrs. Harley Baxter) of Atlantic; two sons, Bernard Murphy of Marne, Iowa and Thomas Murphy of Omaha: 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one sister Margaret Kimball of Cedar Rapids. Pallbearers will be Robert Stuart, Leo Stuart, Joe Fitzpatrick, Joe Ausdemore, Carl Martin and Harold Hansen. Interment will be in St Patrick's Catholic cemetery. (Walnut Bureau January 1964)
