Wedding and Golden Wedding Miss Anna G. Conroy and M.E. Murphy were married this weekend and are now spending their honeymoon at the exposition and visiting relatives in Nebraska. They will be at home to their many friends after September 15th at their home south of town, (Walnut Bureau 9-8-1898) Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Murphy of Walnut observed their golden wedding anniversary yesterday, when they held an open house in the afternoon from 2 to 5 to a large number of relatives and friends. In the morning at 9 o'clock Mr. Murphy's brother, Msgr. Thomas P. Murphy, celebrated the anniversary Mass be for the couple at St. Patrick's church in Walnut and bestowed the papal blessing. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy were the recipients of many flowers, gifts, and messages of congratulations. The couple was married by the Rev. Father Daly in Atlantic Sept. 7, 1898 and has resided since on the same farm four and one-half miles north of Marne. Mrs. Murphy, the former Anna G. Conroy, was born in Shelby county June 24, 1976, the daughter of John and Margaret Conroy. Mr. Murphy was the son of Patrick and Hanora Murphy and was born in Cass county Nov. 13, 1872. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy have five children, Mrs. Harley Baxter and Mrs. Clyde Graham of Atlantic, Miss Evelyn Murphy of Omaha, Bernard and Tom Murphy, at home and five grandchildren. (Atlantic Telegraph 9-8-1948) Obituary Final rites for Michael E. Murphy were held at St Patrick's Catholic church in Walnut on Saturday, June 22, 1963 at 9 AM. Rev Joseph Shulte was the celebrant of the Mass. Pallbearers were Lloyd Frette, Richard Carl, Harold Hansen, Carl Martgin, Joe Fitzpatrick and Robert Stuart. Mr. Murphy died June 20 at the Avoca nursing home. He had reached the age of 90 years, 6 months and 7 days. (Walnut Bureau)
