The Odebolt Chronicle - Thursday , May 6th, 1920 - Relatives and friends of Mrs. R.O. Budd were shocked on Sunday to learn that she had passed away that morning at the hospital at Battle Creek, where she had gone on Saturday for treatment. Mrs. Budd has been in poor health since the fall of 1918, when a severe attack of the flu left her in a weakened condition, and with complicated ailments. She was under treatment in the Battle Creek hospital for several months last fall and became greatly improved in health and her people fully expected that she would regain her health. She developed bronchial trouble however, and for the last couple of weeks before going to the hospital, had been in quite a serious condition, though not confined to the house, until the day or so prior to that time. She became suddenly worse Sunday morning and passed away before her husband or members of the family could reach her bedside. The body was brought home Sunday afternoon and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, a short service was held at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Luft, and at three o'clock at the Clinton Reformed church in Clinton township, interment taking place in the cemetery at that place. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. D. Bosma. The four brothers of Mrs. Budd and two cousins, John and Henry Schramm acting as pall bearers. Anna Marie Barbara Luft was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Luft and was born in Clinton township, this county, April 17, 1887 and was just past thirty-three years of age. Her life has been passed in this county, where she grew to womanhood, and gained her education in the rural schools. September 1, 1909 she was married to R.O. Budd at Sac City and they resided on a farm in Clinton township until a couple of years ago, when Mr. Budd went to Texas, his wife expecting to follow later, and while waiting she made her home with her mother. When her health became such as to preclude the possibility of going south, Mr. Budd came home and every thing possible has been done to restore her to health, but all seemed to be in vain. Mrs. Budd was a young woman of excellent qualities of character, cheerful and happy in disposition, faithful and true to her home life and her friendships. Her death will be deeply felt in the home as well as among a large circle of friends. She leaves her husband, her mother, (her father having died April 23, 1904.), four brothers: Peter, Louis, Gust and John, and one sister Catherine. Louis and Gust reside at Storm Lake, the others here. Relatives from out of town who were here for the funeral, besides the brothers were, an aunt, Mrs. P.H . Peterson of Dysart, an uncle, George Luft of Lavinia, and her cousins Charles Luft of Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hix of Storm Lake. The Chronicle extends sympathy to those who are so sadly bereaved.
