The Odebolt Chronicle - Thursday , January 29th, 1931 - In the passing of Mrs Mary Luft, who died at her home in this place Tuesday evening, Jan 27, death has taken another of the esteemed women of this community after many months of suffering. Mrs. Luft has been in failing health for a long time, but has borne her illness and suffering with patience and fortitude. All that could possibly be done to relieve her discomfort and to hold her to life, has been done, but death's hand could not be stayed and she has gone to be at rest. Mary Elizabeth Hoefling was born in Bindsachen, Hessen, Barnstadt, Germany, Jan 15, 1867. At her passing she had reached the age of 64 years and twelve days. She came to the United States with her parents in 1876, when nine years of age, coming to Benton county, Iowa. She later came to Clinton township, Sac county, and was united in marriage there on July 25, 1885, to Mr. Henry Luft. The family home was in that vicinity until the death of Mr. Luft, who died April 23, 1904. Mrs. Luft and her family continued to reside on the farm until fourteen years ago, when she moved to town, which has since been her home. Mrs. Luft is survived by four sons and one daughter: Peter, Louis, Gustav, and John and Miss Katherine, all of Odebolt. An older daughter, Mrs. Anna Budd, passed away in 1920. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends in the loss of this loved mother. Memorial services will be held in the Salem Reformed church in Clinton township at 2 tomorrow (Friday). Interment will be in the church cemetery.
