Bartels and his wife, Alvina, Nee' Blume, was born in Johnson County, Neb. December 13, 1902. She was baptized in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Elk Creek, Pawnee county (sic), Neb., on January 1, 1903, by Pastor II. F. Grupe. She was confirmed in the same church and by the same pastor on March 28, 19115. Shortly thereafter she moved with her parents lo Thayer county (sic). She was married lo Henry Graue of Chester on April 27, 1924, in St. John's Lutheran Church at Chester by Rev. W. H. Becker and they lived in the Chester Community all their married life. This union was blessed with five daughters and one son, all of whom survive their mother. She will always be remembered by her family as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. Her health had been failing for several years and on June 14 she was taken to the hospital in Hebron, seriously ill. Seemingly improved, her condition suddenly grew worse on Monday evening, June 20, and she was called to her heavenly home shortly before midnight. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 23, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. G.O. Kebschull (officiating. Interment was made in SI. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Her death is mourned by her husband, and by her children, Mrs. Arlene Hoops of Deshler, Neb.; Mrs. Lucille Meyer, Deshler, Neb.; Mrs. Norma Hoops, Hardy, Neb,; Harlan Graue, Chester, Neb.; Mrs. Donna Harms, Chester, Neb.; and Mrs. Mary Ann Black of Hastings, Neb. Also surviving are two brothers, Elmer Bartels, Culver City, Cal., and Emmett Bartels, Los Angeles, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs, Leona Rall, Culver City, Cal.; and Mrs. Irma Gramm, Van Nuys, Cal.; 12 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
