Description	:	Anthon H. "Jack" Shinn, 92, of Merino, died Friday, April 13, 2001 in Sterling. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 17, at the United Methodist Church in Wray with Father Terence Keefe officiating. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery in Wray. Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home of Wray was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Shinn was bom on April 2, 1909 to Forrest and Minnie (Sherman) Shinn in Siloam Springs, Ark. Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home of Wray was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Shinn was bom on April 2, 1909 to Forrest and Minnie (Sherman) Shinn in Siloam Springs, Ark. While he was young his family moved to Thayer County, Neb., where his parents farmed. He graduated from Hubbell High School in 1926. He obtained his teaching degree from Peru State College and taught elementary school in Thayer County until the Great Depression. Traveling the coun try to find work, he finally settled in Laird, in 1936. There he owned a machine and repair shop and continued this work until his retirement in 1987. On July 11, 1939 he married Darlene Thompson. In 1993 they moved to Merino to be closer to their family. He served on the Yuma County Board of Education and the Laird School Board. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wray. Mr. Shinn is survived by his wife, Darlene Shinn of Merino; two sons, Rodney Shinn of Los Angeles and Steve Shinn and wife Lisa of Sterling; a brother, Eldon Shinn of Chester, Neb., five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son, James Robert Shinn; two brothers, George and Richard Shinn; and two sisters, Ruby Hill and Louise Hayes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buffalo Public School Foundation, Inc., Merino, Co.
