Description	:	Anton Witte lived to be 102 years of age. The picture shown with this was taken on his rider mower when he ws 100. Anton was born and raised in rural Melbourne where he attended Melbourne Country Schools. During his childhood he remained in the Melbourne are farming on the family farm. He married Margaret Propp on October 18, 1917. Following their marriage they moved to their family farm north of State Center where they raised their seven children. During his childhood he remained in the Melbourne are farming on the family farm. He married Margaret Propp on October 18, 1917. Following their marriage they moved to their family farm north of State Center where they raised their seven children. Anton operated his family farm for seveal years, where he raised purebred Hampshire hogs. It was in 1958 that one of his hogs was named Champion of the Iowa State Fair. Following many years of hard work on the farm, he and his wife Margaret retired fro farming in 1964 and moved to Melbourne. During their retirement they spent many winters in the Mesa, Airzona area where they spent time with many of their friends. In 1966 Anton took the position of caretaker of the Melbourne Cemetey. He was a a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where he served as past deacon and was on the board of directors for the Melbourne Cemetey.
