Description	:	Arnold Lee Gerhardt, 86, of Atchison, KS died Sunday, Feb. 23rd, 2014 at his home with his family around him. Arnold was born on July 18, 1927 in Netawaka, KS. the son of William and Hattie L. (Vine) Gerhardt. He graduated from Effingham High School in 1945 and was a School Bus Driver while in high School. Read More	Arnold Lee Gerhardt, 86, of Atchison, KS died Sunday, Feb. 23rd, 2014 at his home with his family around him. Arnold was born on July 18, 1927 in Netawaka, KS. the son of William and Hattie L. (Vine) Gerhardt. He graduated from Effingham High School in 1945 and was a School Bus Driver while in high School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Arnold worked as a foreman in the melting department at Rockwell International for over 36 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Gerhardt was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, as an usher, and Elder of the church. He was also a life member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post # 6, Atchison, and as Vice Chairman for the Rural Water District # 1. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, going to auctions, storytelling, Sunday dinner-out with family and especially his children and grandchildren. He also attended the Breakfast Club at Paolucci's Restaurant. He was married to G. Lucille Morris on May 20th, 1955 in Atchison, KS. Mrs Gerhardt preceded him in death on April 15, 2004. Survivors include four daughters, Terri (Harold) Olson, Atchison, KS., Kathy (George) Garrison, Atchison, KS., Kay (Scott) Willis, Casper, WY., and Sue Church, Bandon, OR, a son, Larry (Mary) Church, Omaha, NE., three grandchildren, Melissa, Eric, and Michaela, four step grandchildren, Kim, Jim, Sheila and Lisa, and two great grandchildren, Emma, and Courtney. His parents, a son James Morris, daughter Grace Gerhardt, and a sister, Alma Berry, also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, Feb. 27th, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
