These mothers, who have waited for 12 years or more since their sons were crucified on the altar of whatever men were fighting for, will be taken at the expense of the government to where their sons are sleeping. These 12 years have wrought a difference in the bravely smiling mothers who sent their sons away and kept desperately busy knitting socks, joining Red Cross drives and writing cheerful letters while the boys were gone. While the years have silvered their hair and dulled the ache in their hearts, everyone of these mothers has a poignant memory of the tragedy of her loss. All are eager to make the pilgrimage to France, but many are being prevented because of their own failing health. Four mothers at least will go from this city: Mrs. Georgina Dawson, 1223 North Waco Avenue; Mrs. John P. Davis, 133 Ohio Street; Mrs. Helen A. Pilcher, 1610 East Douglas Avenue, and Mrs. Rebecca A. Bougher, 120 West Pine Street, are the four who are planning to go on the first ship, sometime in May. Arthur C. Pilcher, son of Mrs. Helen A. Pilcher, lost his life in the Argonne while giving aid to the wounded, in pursuit of his duties as a member of the medical department. He was a member of the First division, Second machinery battalion, medical department. He received his training at Camp Doniphan before going over. He participated in three major battles at St. Mihiel and the Argonne before he was killed in the Argonne, October 9, 1918. Honoring his memory the Glasco, Kas. American Legion post No. 212 named its post for him. Mr. Pilcher went into the service from Glasco which was then his home. His parents moved to Wichita 11 years ago. He is buried in Meuse Argonne, American Cemetery, France. --- Wichita Beacon Mrs. Pilcher's many Glasco friends are pleased that she is to be one of the party.
