Born in Van, Boone County, on June 19, 1924, he was the fourth of eleven children born of his beloved parents, Joe H. Davis and Mary Etta Davis, now deceased. Read More	Arthur "Ott" Davis, 86, of Kanawha City in Charleston passed from this life on March 19, 2011, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Van, Boone County, on June 19, 1924, he was the fourth of eleven children born of his beloved parents, Joe H. Davis and Mary Etta Davis, now deceased. Ott spent his formative years in the Van community, attended Van High School, and the Van Methodist Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, when World War II began and spent three years in England, France and Germany. Ott was honorably discharged on February 23, 1946, with the rank of PFC, having been awarded a Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. After the war, Ott spent a year of adventure working I Telluride, Colo., where upon he returned home to West Virginia and began working as a carpenter apprentice for the Y and O Coal Company in Van. He became a skilled carpenter and retained a love for carpentry and building his entire life. A second love occurred when he met and married Deloris Jean Dingess in October 1952, a romance that lasted a lifetime until his death in March 2011, after more than 58 years of marriage. Their only child, Robin Jean Davis, was born in April 1956, and she became his lifetime pride and joy. Robin is currently serving her 15th year as an elected Justice of the WV Supreme Court of Appeals. Ott's work experience as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator in the mining industry included a total of 47 years for the following companies: Y and O Coal Company (Van), Eastern Coal Corporation (Barrett), and Bethlehem Energy Eagle Nest Corporation (Van). Ott relocated his family to Madison in November 1973, after completing the construction of his home and lived there for 30 years. He maintained active membership in the following organizations: Daniel Boone VFW Post No. 5578, O'Dell Masonic Lodge No. 115, Scottish Rite Valley of Logan, Scottish Rite of Charleston, and Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston. Ott was active in the Madison United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. He also served on several committees of UMWA Local Union No. 633. Deceased members of his family, in addition to his parents, include brothers, Guy W. and Joe H. Jr.; and sisters, Halla Sutphin, Mary Helen Woods, and Clara Mae Cooke. Surviving members include wife of 58 years, Deloris Jean Davis; daughter, Robin Jean Davis-Segal (Scott), and grandson, Oliver Davis Segal. Other members include brothers, Floyd (Newton), Carl E. (Charleston), and Jerry N. (Van); sisters, Agnes Guiseppi (Morgantown), and Pearl (San Jose, Calif.). Additional family members who share in our loss, include brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as a host of friends. Funeral service for Ott will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Dr. Frank Frye officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until service time. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 Madison, WV.
