Born on March 18, 1913, Audrey was the daughter of Benjamin T. Quinn and Louise Proctor Quinn, both of whom have predeceased her. A lifelong resident of Virginia, she attended public schools in the City of Hampton and worked for a time for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in Norfolk. While in Norfolk, she met and married her beloved husband, Peter W. Smith III. Audrey was very active in the United Methodist Church and was a member of a number of congregations around the state where she always enjoyed being a member of the church choir and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She became active in the Virginia Conference United Methodist Women and served in several offices, including serving as president of that organization. She enjoyed gardening and painting, but most of all enjoyed her role as wife and mother. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Peter W. Smith III, and her daughter, Joyce K. Gilding. She is survived by her son, Peter W. Smith IV of Virginia Beach, and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousin, and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, in Singleton United Methodist Church by Rev. Les Goode. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Assembly Center in Blackstone, Va. Funeral arrangements are by Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va.
