Hecker, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Rangeler in Lincoln Friday, after a sort illness. A lifetime resident of Hooper, he was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. Born Febr. 25, 1874 at Fontanelle, Nebr., Mr. Hecker came to Hooper with his parents at the age of 6 months, and had made Hooper his home for 82 years. He was married to Gertrude Heine in Hooper on May 25, 1898 and was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was in the grocery store for several years with his father, and was rural mail carrier for many years, retiring in 1939. He was a former member of the Trustees of Midland College, and was for many years secretary of School District No. 26, Hooper. He was a Charter Member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper, and throughout the years served his God faithfully and well, in the work of the church. He was Sunday School superintendent for 27 years, a member of the Council, served as lay delegate to Synodical meetings and conventions, and took an active interest in the organizations of the church. Mr. Hecker was a member of the First Council of the Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; a daughgter, Mrs. Hugh Rangeler of Lincoln; a sister, Mrs. C. C. Cushman of Fremont and a grandson, Stewart Livers of Missouri Valley, Iowa. One daughter, a brother and a grandson preceded him in death. The body lay in state at the Wollmer & Warne Funeral Home Sunday evening, and funeral services were held there Monday, and at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper with the Rev. Richard Schricker officiating. Miss Carolyn Swanson sang, with Mrs. J. B. Schiessler as organist. Pallbearers were Fred Ott, R. E. Bott, George H. Looschen, Wm. Havekost, John Shaffer, and Orrin Von Seggern. Interment was in the Hooper Cemetery.
