The Rev. G. Van Boening conducted the funeral service. Ron Thomsen was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Edmund Wagner. Wollmer & Warne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Gertrude Eloise Heine, daughter of George F. and Eloise Heine was born at Hooper on October 21, 1876. She was given to the Lord in infancy in the Rite of Holy Baptism and in 1892 she confessed her faith in the Triune God and became a member of the Lutheran Church. During the 85 years of her lifetime, Mrs. Hecker's heart and soul were in Hooper, and the good she did will be felt long after her passing. The daughter of Hooper's pioneer hardware merchant, the family was early associated with the growth and progress of the town, seeing it grow from a pioneer village. Mrs. Hecker was a good Christian soul, with a sweet, gentle nature. She was a member of the Hooper church for 69 years, and was active in all the phases of church work, teaching Sunday School through the years. She was one of the organizers of the first missionary society, and worked for it faithfully until her health failed. After she was confined to her home, she was Cradle Roll Superintendent for many years. She was also a longtime member of the Hooper Woman's Club. She attended the Hooper school system and also attended Midland College for two years. On May 25, 1898 she was married to August Hecker in the former Zion Lutheran Church. They celebrated their Golden Wedding at Hooper and were married 58 years when Mr. Hecker suddenly passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Wallace (Wiltrude) Livers, and one grandson. She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. Vernon Rangeler of Lincoln, five sisters, Clara Heine of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Frieda Kusel of Hooper, Mrs. Link Coffey of Indio, Calif., Mrs. Joe Ryons of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. James Scott of San Mateo, Calif.; two brothers, Vincent Heine of Grand Island, and Walter Heine of Los Altos, Calif.; one grandson, Stewart Livers, and many friends and relatives. Relatives who came from out of town for the service were Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Heine of Grand Island, Mrs. Bob McClelland of Hastings; Mrs. Zelman Howard of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reiter of Omaha. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Obituary - Mrs. August Hecker Former Hooper Woman is Dead Hooper - Services for Mrs. August Hecker, 85, local resident who has been in a Lincoln nursing home five years, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the West Redeemer Lutheran Church here. The Rev. Grant Van Boening will officiate. The body will lie in state Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Wollmer and Warne Funeral Home here. Mrs. Hecker died Thursday at the Tabitha Home in Lincoln. Born Oct. 21, 1876 in Hooper, she was a longtime members of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, and active in church work before her illness. She was married to August Hecker May 25, 1898 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Hooper. He preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1956. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hugh Rangeler of Lincoln; sisters, Clara Heine of Santa Barbara, Calif, Mrs. Frieda Kasel of Hooper, Mrs. Link Coffey of Indio, Calif., Mrs. Joe Ryons of Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. James Scott of San Mateo, Calif.; brothers, Vincent Heine of Grand Island, Walter, of Los Altos, Calif.; one grandson. A memorial has been established to the infirmary of the Tabitha Home.
