Uehling at Crowell at 5 o'clock last Thursday morning, April 5, at the age of 45 years, 1 month and 20 days. Although he had been ailing for sometime his condition was not considered critical, so notice of his death came as a surprise and shock to Hooper relatives and friends. Mr. Uehling was a native of this vicinity, having been born on February 6, 1878, on the farm of his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Uehling, 4 1/2 miles west of Hooper. Here he spent his boyhood days and grew to manhood and became very well known in our circle of citizenship, deserving the respect that was shown him by his acquaintances. On January 15, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Lenora Weigle, who survives him, and who, with the four sons and six daughters born to this union, are now cast in the darkness of bereavement in the loss of a dutiful and devoted husband and father, and who have the deep heartfelt sympathy of this community. His death is also mourned by one brother and four sisters, O. F. Uehling, Mrs. A. H. Keller and Mrs. P. H. Bergquist of Hooper, Mrs. H. P. Marquardt of Fremont and Mrs. Edward Realph of Crowell, and also by his step mother, Mrs. John Uehling, and step sister, Mrs. C. E. Sauers of Santa Ana, Calif. After his marriage this vicinity remained his home for several years, he and family moving to Crowell about eight years ago. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, first with services at 12:30 at the Crowell home, the funeral party then coming overland to Hooper for services at two o'clock at Zions Lutheran church, the pastor Rev. J. Schrader conducting them at both places. Interment was made in the Hooper cemetery.
