Thede died late Monday in the St. Paul hospital as the result of traffic injuries suffered Saturday, January 12 on Highway 92 near the Otto Schlueter home south of Palmer. Mr. Thede's death is a great loss, not only to his family and relatives; but to this community, where he has been active in public affairs, as well as being an extremely private citizen. He was a member of the Palmer school board, and also has represented Loup and Prairie as County Supervisor for a number of terms. During 1962 he was chairman of the Board.... August W. Thede was born September 15, 1908 in Merrick County, Nebraska to Susanna and Henry Thede. He grew to manhood in Merrick County and received his education in a rural school near Worms and the Zion Lutheran School in Worms. He also attended Grand Island Business College. On August 15, 1936 he was united in marriage to Norma Helzer in Worms. They made their home on a farm near Worms where he spent the remainder of his life. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran church in Worms where he was also a member. He is survived by his wife Norma, one daughter Cheryl at home and one son James of Cozad; one sister, Mrs. Viola Busch of Ann Arbor, Michigan, two brothers, Harry of St. Libory and Walter of Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
