Description	:	August Wilhelm, the son pf Anders and Anna Larson Hawkinson, was born 28 October 1883, on a farm in the New Gottland area. He attended the local schools, became a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church and grew to manhood in this community. 15 November 1916 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Regier, at the home of her parents. Bill and Sarah have been privileged to share the joys and sorrows of life for over 61 years, living on the farm, 5 miles north of Galva, which was homesteaded by Bill's grandparents, Lars and Gretta Larson. This property... Read More	August Wilhelm, the son pf Anders and Anna Larson Hawkinson, was born 28 October 1883, on a farm in the New Gottland area. He attended the local schools, became a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church and grew to manhood in this community. 15 November 1916 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Regier, at the home of her parents. Bill and Sarah have been privileged to share the joys and sorrows of life for over 61 years, living on the farm, 5 miles north of Galva, which was homesteaded by Bill's grandparents, Lars and Gretta Larson. This property was about 3 miles away from the farm homesteaded by Bill's parents. He had engaged in farming and the raising of livestock throughout his long and useful life. Also was on the Delmore Township Board and was an assessor for McPherson Co several years. He was a charter member of the North Union Chapter of the Farmers Union, 30 April 1912. In 1971 he was honored as the oldest continuous member in both the county and state. His eternal rest came at McPherson Memorial Hospital on Sunday evening 5 February 1978 at the age of 94 years 3 months 8 days. Two sons, Donald and Leonard preceded their father in death. Survivors include his wife Sarah of the home, three sons and dayghters-in-law, Gene and Marge Hawkinson of Galva, LeRoy and Betty of San Jose, California, Warren and Blanche of Lindsborg; two daughters-in-law, Mrs Nancy John of Lindsborg and Mrs. Shirley Craig of Seward Nebraska; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Hilma Johnson of Neodesha, Kansas; Mrs. Esther Pattingill of Manhattan Kansas and Mrs. Ida Anderson of Lindsborg. other relitives and his friends. Bill Hawkinson was a loving father and a kind and considerate friend and neighbor to those about him. He always had a smile and a greeting for every one. He will be missed by his family, his church and his friends.
