Read More	Dayton Review January 4, 1951 Services Today For Mrs. Augusta Skoglund Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Augusta Skoglund, 83 years old, who passed away Sunday evening, December 31st, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. Mrs. Skoglund was well known in this community having lived in or near Dayton for over 66 years. She was the wife of the late John Skoglund, who died in 1934. She has been an unusually active woman throughout her life, but a few months ago suffered a light heart attack, which, although she apparently recovered left her in a weakened condition. However, she spent many hours each day resting, and has enjoyed life a lot until recently when she suffered a stroke, since being in critical condition, and from which she died Sunday evening. Reverend R.E. Carlson, pastor of the Lutheran Church here is conducting the service today, with Swanson and Carson in charge of arrangements. Surviving are ten children, Mrs. H.F. Johnson, Mrs. Emil Newholm, Mrs. Floyd Olson, Mrs. Ralph Peterson, Elmer Skoglund, Reuben Skoglund, and Ivan Skoglund, all of Dayton; Bert Skoglund of Gowrie; Mrs. J.A. McCoy of Des Moines; and Mrs. Ralph Stark of Muscatine, Iowa. Also surviving are 34 grand children and 28 great grand children; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Waters of Grand Junction and Mrs. Nellie Peterson of Lanyon. Four brothers, Ed Swanson of Paton; Peter Swanson, Wesley Swanson, and Elmer Swanson, all of Boxhohlm, Iowa. The obituary will appear next week. Dayton Review January 11, 1951 MRS. AUGUSTA SKOGLUND 1867 - 1950 Augusta Amelia, the daughter of John and Sarah Swanson, was born November 12, 1867, in Ulrika Forsamling, Östergötland, Sweden. Here she was baptized in early infancy, and came to America with her parents at the age of 2 1/2 years. The Swanson family came directly to this area of Iowa, and at Emanuel Church, Dayton, on May 13, 1883, Augusta Swanson was confirmed. This area is where she lived the remainder of her long and busy life. On March 17, 1885, Augusta Swanson was united in marriage with Mr. John Skoglund. This union was blessed with 13 children, 10 of whom survive their mother today. These are 4 sons: Elmer, Reuben and Ivan of Dayton; and Bert of Gowrie. Six daughters: Myrtle, Mrs. Emil Newholm, Ruby, Mrs. Harold Johnson, Martina, Mrs. Floyd Olson, Olive, Mrs. Ralph Peterson, all of Dayton; and Anna, Mrs. J.A. McCoy, of Des Moines; and Sadie, Mrs. Ralph Stark, of Muscatine, Iowa. Thirty-four grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren also survive, as do 4 brothers, Pete, Wesley and Elmer Swanson, of Boxholm, and Ed Swanson of Paton, Iowa; and two sisters: Mrs. Anna Waters, of Grand Junction, Iowa, and Mrs. Nellie Peterson, of Lanyon, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Skoglund was preceded in death by her husband who passed away on February 20, 1934, and three children: Benjamin Roy, on Sept. 12, 1894; Elsie Irene, July 11, 1907, and Laura Viola, Mrs. Ed. Renberg, who passed away October 12, 1916. Since her confirmation in 1887 Mrs. Skoglund has remained a faithful and active member in this congregation for the past 67 years. When health permitted she was always present at services and active in its support. During the last years she often expressed regret that her physical condition quite often hindered attendance at worship services among her friends in her church. During the past several years her health has not been good. Some days ago she suffered a stroke and was taken to Lutheran Hospital at Fort Dodge. Here she passed away on Sunday night at a little past ten, shortly before the passing of the year. She was 83 years, 1 month and 19 days old. With the passing of Mrs. Skoglund we lose another of the sturdy pioneers of this area; another of the builders of our community and state. Peace be to the memory of Mrs. Augusta Skoglund.
