October 9, 1913 - Newel Mirror - BENJAMAN CORNAL LOOMIS died at his home three miles north of Nemaha on Tuesday evening at six o'clock, Sept. 30, 1913, after an illness of six days. Mr. Loomis was born in Ohio July 10, 1832 and was married to Miss Esther VanHorn Dec. 5, 1852. In the fall of 1872 he moved from Wisconsin with his wife and family, then of six children, and settled on a homestead in Providence township, Buena Vista county, now part of the J.C. Brown farm, later moving to Sac county. He was the father of twelve children, six having passed on before. The names of the six living, who were all present when the end came, are Mrs. J.C. Brown of Newell, Mrs. Frank Trickle of Nemaha, Chas. Loomis, Mrs. V.W. Cresap of Fostoria, Iowa, Mrs. John Jackson of Truesdale, and John Loomis who are left with the aged wife to mourn his loss: also thirty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home at 10:30 a.m., Thursday Oct. 2, 1913, conducted by C.J. Robinson, funeral director of Newell. The sermon was preached by Rev. J. Irving Brown, pastor of the Christian church at Sac City. The pall bearers were five grandsons: Orville, Lorin and Jay Ellis, James E. Brown, Ira Trickle and Walter Loomis, a son of a nephew. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ed. Berner, Miss Grace Myott, Mrs. Henry Deppe, Mrs. Hazel Abernathy, Gus Wedeking, Murl Abernathy and Mrs. Rose Patterson, organist. Interment took place in the family lot in Newell cemetery. The death of Mr. Loomis, leaving his wife in her advanced years to finish her earthly pilgrimage alone, is inexpressibly sad. She has the sympathy of many friends in this community in her great sorrow.
