Esther VanHorn was born in Jonesville, Mich., May 14, 1837 and was married to Benjamin C. Loomis Dec. 5, 1852. In the fall of 1872 she moved from Wisconsin with her husband and six children and settled on a homestead in Providence township Buena Vista county, now a part of the J.C. Brown farm near Newell. Later they moved to Sac county. She was the mother of twelve children, six having passed on before. The surviving six sons and daughters are Mrs. J.C. Brown of Newell, Mrs. Frank Trickle of Nemaha, Mrs. V.W. Cresap of Valley City, N.D., Mrs. John Jackson of Rembrandt, and Charlie and John Loomis both of Newell with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband in September, 1913. There are thirty - two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Loomis was a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by the children and relatives, who have the sympathy of many friends in this community in their great sorrow. Funeral services were held at the home Friday morning, Jan. 26, 1917, conducted by S.R. Couch of Newell. Rev. J. Irving Brown, pastor of the Christian church at Sac City, spoke words of comfort to the relatives and friends. Appropriate music was rendered by a choir from Nemaha. The pall bearers were the six grandsons, Orville, Lorin and Jay Ellis, James E. Brown and Ira and Chester Trickle. The interment took place in the family lots in Newell cemetery. Rev. Jas. E. Holden officiated at the cemetery.
