Read More	Bernard served in the US Army April 8, 1918-July 1, 1919. ******** Sioux County Capital; July 16, 1936 WELL KNOWN ALTON BUSINESS MAN DIES FROM COMPLICATIONS AFTER LE MARS OPERATION Barney Hoxmeier, 42 year old resident of Alton and proprietor with his sister of the Hoxmeier Store, died in mid afternoon Tuesday at the Le Mars Hospital. Mr. Hoxmeier had been taken to the hospital for treatment of his right thumb which has become infected. He was also suffering from an infected throat but complications which set in after the operation on his hand caused his death. Shortly after the small surgical work had been finished, Mr. Hoxmeier suffered a stroke which affected the heat centre of the brain giving him a temperature of 109. It was from these developments that death occurred. Mr. Hoxmeier had attended the Fred Kooreman funeral Saturday morning and complained of not feeling well. He rested at home but later developments made hospitalization necessary. He was a bachelor and had been living with his two maiden sisters at Alton while he ran the general store which was founded by his father. Barney is the third of the Hoxmeier children to die. He is survived by his sisters at Alton, a brother in St. Louis, two brothers in California and two sisters in Dubuque. Mr. Hoxmeier was a life long resident of Alton. He was town clerk, President of the Alton-Orange City Golf Club, a member of the Alton Community Club and active in many community affairs. His parents, Theodore Hoxmeier died in 1923 and his mother Mary (Krier) Hoxmeier died in 1931. Funeral services will be held on Saturday from the Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
