Read More	Alton Democrat; February 10, 1917 The community as a whole suffered a genuine loss in the death of Helen Hoxmeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore and Mary (Krier) Hoxmeier on Saturday, February 3. Her pleasing disposition, sunny nature and smiling face made her a great favorite with all who knew her and it was a real pleasure to meet her on the street for there was always a smile and pleasant word. Next to the immediate family her schoolmates feel their loss most keenly. Her taking away was a sad blow to the family and a very sudden shock to the community. The Tuesday before her death, Helen was still at school, but by Thursday so rapidly was the development of the ailment, an abscess back of the eye, her condition was serious. Friday it became known that an operation was necessary as a last resort and this was performed Saturday morning but did not succeed in saving her life. Helen was born March 26, 1901 and would have been sixteen years old in March. She was the youngest member of the family, a good student and in the 10th grade at St. Mary’s Academy. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from St. Mary’s Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery.
