He has been ill with locomotor ataxia for seven years and confined to the house for three years past. Read More	Alton Democrat; September 22, 1906 Henry Hoxmeier the afflicted son of Theodore Hoxmeier of Alton is dead. He has been ill with locomotor ataxia for seven years and confined to the house for three years past. Hiccoughs and inability to breath well or eat anything have sapped his strength in the past few days. Though confined to the house for three or four years he was only bedridden part of the time. Wednesday he was up awhile but very weak. Thursday night at eleven o'clock his spirit took its flight. Deceased was born July eighth 1880 at St. Donatus Iowa and was therefore a little more than twenty six years old. Almost eight years ago deceased became afflicted with a pain in his neck which caused him to hold his head to one side. He was taken to specialists all over this part of the country. The disease at first puzzled them but was later pronounced locomotor ataxia, It is an ailment affecting the spine and muscles and rendering use of the limbs impossible, It is a disease about which medical science knows little and for which there is no successful treatment. The patient has of course suffered greatly as anyone must from long lying in bed even though in little pain. In the latter part of his illness ulcers formed up one side of his body but he bore all his ills with patience and Christian fortitude. Death was not only a relief to him—it was more. It was a blessing—for it means his entrance into that upper and better kingdom where suffering and sorrow and tears are gone away. The funeral is to be held on Monday from St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Relatives are arriving from Jackson county Iowa and from Nebraska and Minnesota and South Dakota. The bereaved family have much sympathy.
