Description	:	Santa Cruz (California) Sentinel on Mar. 6, 2016 Long-time Aptos resident Bernard L. Scott, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2016 after a short illness. Bernie was born on a farm near Scotia, Nebraska to Everette Lloyd and Jessie Reams Scott, the third of four children. Read More	Santa Cruz (California) Sentinel on Mar. 6, 2016 Long-time Aptos resident Bernard L. Scott, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2016 after a short illness. Bernie was born on a farm near Scotia, Nebraska to Everette Lloyd and Jessie Reams Scott, the third of four children. After he graduated high school in 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He attended Nebraska Weseyan University on the GI bill and was elected president of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and senior class president. After graduation he worked as a field representative for his fraternity for four years, visiting chapters all over the country. He then moved to southern California where he was employed in the payroll departments of Desilu and Ziv Studios before becoming a Social Worker for Los Angeles County where he met the love of his life, David B. Singleton. In 1972 David was selected as Santa Cruz County Welfare Director and David and Bernie moved to Aptos. Bernie and David enjoyed many travel adventures together, including trans-Atlantic voyages on the QE11, many other cruises, and trips to Europe, Hawaii and Samoa. After David died of a sudden heart attack in 1988, Bernie moved to Aptos Pines and began a second career at the Santa Cruz County Recorder's office, where he worked as a Legal Documents Examiner until he retired in 2005. In retirement he loved working with his computers and watching movies. His ashes, along with those of David, will be interred at the Scott family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery, Scotia NE. His is survived by a nephew Gary (and Betsy) Keep of Dallas, TX, a grand-niece Jerri Spellman of Aurora, CO, David's step-mother Floy Singleton of Paonia, CO, David's half-siblings Gary, Kevin and Karen, his best friend Suzanne Krakover-Nickel and a host of other friends. Bernie did not want a memorial service. Friends are invited, instead, to an afternoon of shared stories and memories at the Aptos Pines Clubhouse, 7515 Freedom Boulevard, Aptos from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, March. 12th.
