She departed this life on Saturday, October 1, 1994 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. ..Berniece received her formal education attending the Fairview rural school in Smith County. She was baptized as a child in the B.U.B. Church. She departed this life on Saturday, October 1, 1994 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. ..Berniece received her formal education attending the Fairview rural school in Smith County. She was baptized as a child in the B.U.B. Church. Her grandfather, Jackson Brown, was one of the members instrumental in building that church. ..On December 15, 1928 she was united in marriage with George Thomas McCartney at Smith Center, Kansas. They were blessed with five sons and two daughters. They made their home in Logan Township in Smith County, Kansas south of Red Cloud and later in Red Cloud. In December of 1978, George and Berniece were privileged to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. ..Bernice enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening and was well known for her alibity to make plants grow and bloom. Her greatest joy was her family. She especially treasured the time spent at all the large get-togethers through the years. Each grandchild held a very special place in her heart and, in turn, each grandchild has special memories of their grandmother. Her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law were as special to her as her own children. Berniece's family gave her a lot of support and strength during her illness and surgeries the last eight years. ..She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George on December 16, 1984; granddaughter JoAnn McCartney; son-in-law Wilbur Reibold; brother Harold Delka and two other brothers who died in infancy. ..Left to cherish her memory are sons Paul Edward and wife Ruth of Lebanon, Kansas; Robert of Red Cloud; Lloyd and wife Mary Ann of Hastings; Darrel and wife Donna of Inland, Nebraska and Don and wife Barbara of Nelson; daughters Mary Jane Reibold of Red Cloud and Linda Biltoft and husband John D. of Nora; a brother Delbert and wife Barbara of Greeley, Colorado; sisters Dorothy Koenig and husband Lee, of Greeley, Colorado, Ruby Gates of Commerce City, Colorado Frances Warner and husband Ernest of Red Cloud. Other survivors include 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; nieces; nephews; and numerous relatives and friends who will miss her greatly. ..Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 1994 from the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dennis R. Linton-Hendrick officiating. Debbie Bartels sang "Beyond The Sunset". The congregational hymns were "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Betty Rasser, organist. Honorary casket bearers were Scott Saathoff, Darin Bortz, Mark McDonald, Jeff Hoins, Dennis Hendrick, Ed McCartney and David McCartney. The casket bearers were Jim McCartney, Tom Biltoft, Jason Biltoft, Randall McCartney, Mike McCartney and Kevin Hurt. Interment was in the Mt.
